Band

What do you get when you crossbreed musical genres like horny studs in a pen full of bitches? Quivertwist of course! What could be more natural than a nonchalant disregard for boundaries when the band members have such an eclectic sweep of influences themselves? Of course originality becomes easier when you aren’t using the two most popular instruments heard in commercial pop music. Remove guitar from the sonic picture. Then remove the vocals too. Quivertwist clears the aural space revealing distinct and subtle tones.
Hear the drums smack and hum, the bass throb and thrum, the keys waver and shine and saxes blow seductive lines of warm melodies. Quivertwist oozes tone all over the place with sharpened hooks for rhythms and adventurous melodies wandering wandering throughout. They produce a very open sound and easily evoke unique moods with each bar of music.
~ Anj MacIvor - saxes ~
One half of the melodic duo, she weaves improvised lines in and over the keys to give Quivertwist her sweet feminine flavour. Add some blues, a dash of rock, some jazz, a pinch of asia and experience the aural aromas Anj instills in the music.
~ Rick Barkhouse - keyboards ~
He predominantly (but not exclusively) uses various organ sounds and will sometimes play stuff that seems unassuming until you really listen. Then you realize that Rick’s finger-work is the magic glue that binds the rhythms to the melodies effortlessly and without pretense. He resonates with Anj and creates the synergy necessary. He also trades solo duties with Anj and skillfully injects another unique layer of style into Quivertwist’s melodies.
~ Kenyon Smith - bass ~
He has a dynamic sounding fretless bass that he isn’t afraid to use. Strong riffs, tons of tone and plenty of sliding characterize the rhythmic locomotion that defines Quivertwist. Kenyon often sends Anj and Rick down odd rhythmic paths which they otherwise may not have taken, but they uniquely adapt to and compliment his bass lines with feeling and finesse.
